About the artist

Paula Ordóñez Casanova was born in 1964 in Quito, Ecuador. She studied painting and printmaking at the Faculty of Arts of the Universidad Central in Quito, graduating in 1988. Since then her work has been exhibited in Ecuador, France, Spain, Germany, Cuba and China.

Three stages can be traced through my work as a visual artist: a first one, an exploration of the human figure and its subtle transformations, built around a theme tied to music, where watercolor and oil predominate. A second stage — the one that has endured the longest — immerses children in a broad, playful world marked by an intense use of color; how space is handled and how the subject is approached is treated with great freedom. A third stage has emerged from extensive exploration and experimentation with different techniques, centered above all on the resolution of textures placed in service of a new visual language, one that keeps returning to the concerns of humanity.
